Democrat seeks nomination in 40th Legislative District
A Democratic hopeful from the 40th Legislative District plans a campaign launch at 5 p.m. today at Spoonwood Brewing Company, 5971 Baptist Road, Bethel Park.
Ed Eichenlaub of Bethel Park is seeking his party’s nomination for the legislative seat for Peters and Upper St. Clair townships and part of Bethel Park now occupied by State Rep. John Maher, a Republican.
A former timekeeper at three different U.S. Steel mills, Eichenlaub said in a news release he has felt the destruction of the industry firsthand.
He also worked as a nutrition researcher and as health inspector in Allegheny County.
“Our leaders in Harrisburg continue to put politics before people when they let industries die, overburden industry and refuse to do the job they are elected to do,” Eichenlaub continued. “Our community must fight against wasteful regulation, burdensome property taxes on our seniors and career politicians who stand in the way of progress.
“Our current elected state officials illegally gerrymandered our state elections to thwart the will of the people. We need to change that to a fair system.”
He called for fully funding schools with on-time budgets and protection against the opioid epidemic.
Eichenlaub and his wife, Sheryl, are the parents of five sons. The candidate is a graduate of Alderson-Broaddus College in Philippi, W.Va.
On the Republican ticket, James Roman of Peters Township also announced his intention to seek his party’s nomination for the legislative seat.
