Betsy Rohanna McClure announced Monday she is once again running for the 50th state House District seat, which includes all of Greene County and portions of Washington and Fayette counties.

The Republican from Franklin Township hopes to challenge state Rep. Pam Snyder, D-Jefferson, in the general election, setting up a rematch from two years ago when McClure narrowly lost to the four-term incumbent.

“Since the last election, I haven’t stopped volunteering to help people and improve lives,” McClure said. “I’ve continued to work with local community leaders to find solutions to the terrible drug epidemic hurting so many families.”

In her announcement, McClure touted her work as a community leader, school nurse in Trinity Area School District and chair of the Friends of the NRA event that raised money to teach children firearms and hunting safety.

She said she would oppose tax increases, fight for jobs to promote economic growth, support job-training opportunities for area residents and work to preserve the rights of gun owners. McClure added she would work to find a solution to the opioid epidemic.

“We have a serious problem with drugs – prescription and illegal drugs,” McClure said. “I will work with law enforcement and state, county and local elected officials from both parties, and community leaders to address this problem right now. We must win this fight for our children, and our families.”

McClure said she would be a proponent for the energy industry and work to increase job prospects for coal miners and natural gas drillers.

If elected, she promised to refuse to accept per diem expenditures and a state pension. McClure also said she would push for legislative reforms in Harrisburg, including removing automatic payraises for legislators.

“You can count on me to always put the communities’ interest ahead of special interests, and certainly before any self-interest,” McClure said.

McClure earned her nursing degree from Waynesburg College and a master’s degree in education from California University of Pennsylvania. She is a member of the Pennsylvania State Education Association, Veterans of Foreign War Local 4793 and National Rifle Association.
