Ringgold appoints acting superintendent
NEW EAGLE – Ringgold School Board appointed an acting superintendent Wednesday to lead the district following the death last week of superintendent Karen Polkabla.
The board named Randy Skrinjorich, the district’s director of operations and financial services, to fill Polkabla’s position as a search for a new superintendent continues.
Polkabla, 67, died unexpectedly of natural causes Feb. 15 in her Donora home four months before she planned to retire from the district where she rose from teacher, to elementary center principal and superintendent in a career that spanned more than three decades.
The new title for Skrinjorich does not include a pay raise, he said.
He said the district was still interviewing candidates for the superintendent’s position and he expects the position will be filled within a few months.
Skrinjorich was named acting superintendent on the same day the district closed in order for students and staff to attend Polkabla’s funeral.
The funeral was beautiful and sad at the same time, Ringgold School Board President Carol Flament said.
