A foreign technology company could soon be coming to South Fayette.
During a Feb. 21 planning commission meeting, the board approved the first steps for Hennecke Inc., a polyurethane technology company based in Germany, to move into South Fayette’s Alpine Point development.
The minor subdivision and preliminary and final site plans will now move onto the township’s commissioners, who could vote on the matter as soon as March 21.
The proposed 35,000 square foot building on Energy Drive will join Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania in the Alpine development.
“This is a good place for development,” said Tom Iagnemma, planning commission member. “There are some challenges there…but I think we’re able to get this to work.”
Founded by Karl Hennecke in Sankt Augustin, Germany, in 1945, Hennecke develops polyurethane machines and works with processors and users in more than 100 countries.
If approved, the location would be Hennecke’s 11th in the world and second in the United States; the other in the U.S. is also in Pennsylvania, as Hennecke opened a location in Lawrence since 1977. Hennecke’s other locations are in Mexico, Brazil, India, Singapore, China, Korea, Russia and the Czech Republic.
Polyurethane machines produce materials such as wheels, furniture, automotive parts, household appliances and many other everyday products.
The location, according to Jonathan Nietert, manufacturing manager at Hennecke, will have between 50-60 employees.
“The location is good for us,” Nietert said. “We wanted to stay closer by to our Lawrence location.”
