Fayette resident makes second bid for Congress
Under the map designed by the state Supreme Court, a Fayette County man who ran as a write-in candidate for Congress two years ago is making another bid, this time in the new 14th District.
Adam Sedlock of Chalk Hill, a Democrat, sought a write-in nomination in the 9th Congressional District with the aim of unseating Republican incumbent Bill Shuster of Hollidaysburg, Blair County. The 9th District at that time included much of the Mon Valley in Washington and Greene counties.
Sedlock, however, received fewer write-in votes than Art Halvorson of Mann’s Choice, Bedford County, who narrowly lost to Shuster on the Republican ticket in the April 2016 primary. Halvorson won the Democratic write-in, but lost to Shuster during the November 2016 general election.
Sedlock, a licensed psychologist, said in a news release, “Political sanity starts with you.
“We cannot afford to keep sending millionaires to Congress. It’s time Pennsylvania elects someone who can relate to the needs of everyday people and understands the expectations of hard-working Americans.”
Sedlock said he is committed to keeping American children safe, especially in school, and believes that an honest conversation and immediate action to fund a better system of background checks and research on gun safety is inevitable.
“We must end the rampant rage of gun violence,” Sedlock continued. “We can do this and still ensure the right to bear arms. No one is coming to get your guns. Our Congress, over the last decade, has refused to fund research in gun violence. This must stop. We must investigate, in a scientific fashion, the who, what, when and where of gun violence to make an educated decision to stop this public health crisis.”
Republicans are appealing the Pennsylvania Supreme Court’s redrawn boundaries to federal court, which is expected to hear the case next month, before the filing deadline for the May 15 primary in which Sedlock plans to be a candidate.
The Pennsylvania Supreme Court’s map has placed Washington, Greene, Fayette and about half of Westmoreland County including the Monessen and Greensburg areas, in the 14th Congressional District.
