Power restored to Waynesburg area after car hits pole
Nearly 2,000 West Penn Power customers in the Waynesburg area were without power for about four hours early Sunday.
West Penn Power spokesman Todd Myers said the outage occurred at 2:21 a.m. when a car struck a pole on Hill Schoolhouse Road just west of Waynesburg.
According to Myers, the accident knocked out a circuit that serves 1,965 customers. He said power was restored at 6:30 a.m.
About 1,500 customers lost power just west of Waynesburg for an emergency equipment repair just before 1 p.m. Sunday, according to West Penn’s outage map. Estimated restoration time was originally set for 3:30 p.m., but the outage disappeared from the online map just after 1:30 p.m.
Myers said the broken pole from the morning accident was originally given a temporary fix to restore power, and any subsequent outages afterward should not be for an extended period of time.
“Any outage after this would be momentary,” Myers said.
While additional, more permanent repairs are being made, power on the grid can be rerouted. Myers suspected that there should not be another large, lengthy outage but there could be smaller outages throughout the day.
