Attorney hopes to succeed Neuman in state Legislature
Clark Mitchell Jr., an attorney who lives in South Strabane Township, intends to seek Democratic nominations for the 48th District state House seat in both the special and primary elections scheduled for May 15.
Brandon Neuman, who last year was elected Washington County judge, resigned his 48th District seat Dec. 31.
Democrats from the district’s 39 precincts will convene Sunday in Canonsburg to choose a candidate for a May 15 special election to fill the remainder of Neuman’s current term, and candidates for the primary can circulate nominating petitions next month.
A lifelong resident of South Strabane, Mitchell, 31, is a graduate of Trinity High School, Duquesne University and the Western Michigan-Cooley School of Law.
He works as an attorney at the law offices of his father, Clark A. Mitchell, concentrating on personal injury cases, workers compensation and estate planning.
Mitchell said he aims to fight for workers’ and women’s rights and to stop the opioid epidemic.
In announcing his first try for public office, Mitchell said in a news release, “A quick look at the recent state and national results clearly indicates that it is imperative for Democrats to stand up and push back against the current climate.
“I bring a youthful enthusiasm and energetic agenda that is necessary to maintain the democratic ideals that made this state and country great.”
