A Beaver County woman who has been a fugitive for more than a year was taken into custody Saturday after South Strabane Township police received a tip she was at a Fayette County resort.

Anastasia Michelle Kline, 22, was taken into custody at Nemacolin Woodlands by state police in Uniontown after Detective Ken Torboli notified them she might be at the resort. Torboli picked her up at the Uniontown barracks and returned her to Washington County for arraignment.

Kline was charged by South Strabane police in November 2016 with 18 counts of forgery and nine counts each of bad checks and theft by deception. District Judge Jay Weller declared her a fugitive last May.

Torboli said Kline allegedly opened a checking account at Washington Financial, 255 Murtland Ave., Sept. 29, 2016, with a $25 deposit. She listed her home address in Beaver and provided a valid state identification card when she opened the account.

Kline then reportedly drove to another branch later that day, depositing a check for $2,090 reportedly drawn from another bank. That check was returned Oct. 3 to Washington Financial as an “altered or fictitious item.”

On Sept. 30, Kline reportedly went to eight different Washington Financial locations in McMurray, Canonsburg, Washington, Hickory and South Strabane and North Franklin townships. At each location she cashed a check for $1,885 from a bogus account at a third bank. Torboli said she was able to successfully withdraw more than $15,000 from Washington Financial.

Torboli learned through his investigation she left the area and went to Detroit after the alleged incidents.

Torboli said she is also wanted on warrants in Allegheny and Beaver counties. She is wanted on a warrant in Beaver for failing to appear on drug charges. A bench warrant was issued for her in Allegheny County after she failed to appear for a preliminary hearing on retail theft and false identification charges filed against her in 2016 by Ross Township police.

Kline was arraigned before District Judge Robert Redlinger and placed in Washington County jail on $50,000 bond. She is scheduled for a Jan. 23 preliminary hearing before Weller.
