A family of four was displaced Monday afternoon when a fire heavily damaged their home at 38 Hinerman Road in Amwell Township.

Amwell fire Chief Norm Arthur said no one was injured in the fire that was reported about 12:30 p.m., but one of the family’s three cats did not survive.

Arthur said Brittnie Smith and her 12-year-old daughter smelled smoke and were able to get out of the house and call 911. The fire was extinguished in about an hour.

Firefighters from several departments work to extinguish a blaze Monday at 38 Hinerman Road in Amwell Township.

Arthur said it appears the fire started in the back of the home. A state police fire marshal was called to investigate the cause.

Firefighters from Amwell, Lone Pine, South Strabane, North Franklin, South Franklin and Morris were at the scene, as were members of the Washington County Public Safety Department.

Arthur said the Red Cross is assisting the family.
