NORTH STRABANE

Man charged: Jared B. Austin, 22, whose address is listed in court papers as being in Cape Coral, Fla., was charged by township police with obstructing the administration of law, criminal mischief, disorderly conduct and harassment Friday. Police said Austin allegedly grabbed his girlfriend by the hair during an argument inside her vehicle on the 800 block of Linden Road shortly after 12 a.m.. He then got out and allegedly kicked the car, damaging it in various places. Court records show Austin was arraigned before District Judge Traci McDonald and is in Washington County jail on $50,000 bond.

SMITH TOWNSHIP

Assault charge: Phillip A. Spears, 27, of Langeloth was charged by township police Saturday with simple assault and harassment in connection with an incident at his East Second Avenue Home, during which he allegedly gave his wife a cut and bruise to her right eye. An officer said in court papers Spears’ wife got the injuries when her husband got angry because the house wasn’t cleaned up, and allegedly threw a cell phone at her the night before. Spears was arraigned before District Judge Traci McDonald and is in Washington County jail on $10,000 bond.

SOMERSET

Theft reported: State police reported an unknown number of people cut a hole in the fence at Hill International Trucks LLC’s site on Alton Hill Drive sometime between 1:15 and 5 a.m. Friday. The person or people responsible reportedly raised two trucks with jacks that were left at the scene, put them on wooden blocks and made off with 12 wheels and tires.

WASHINGTON

Strangulation charge: Richard Porter, 54, of Bassettown Manor, was charged Friday by city police with strangulation. An officer said in court papers he was called to the Family Dollar on Highland Avenue for a report of a fight that afternoon. Porter reportedly told police his girlfriend had stolen $40 from him. His girlfriend, who had marks on her neck including a small laceration, told the officer Porter allegedly tried to choke her. Porter was arraigned before District Judge Traci McDonald and is in Washington County jail on $10,000 bond.

Prostitution arrest: City police charged Shelly J. Wade, 38, of McMechen, W.Va., with promoting prostitution, drug possession and use/possession of drug paraphernalia Saturday. A police lieutenant, apparently posing as a potential customer, texted Wade after seeing her number on the classified-ad website Backpage and offered her money to meet him at the George Washington Hotel, according to court papers. Police reportedly arrested her in the early afternoon when she arrived at the hotel. She was arraigned before District Judge Traci McDonald and is in Washington County jail on $7,500 percentage bond.
