Washington police said a house on Shannon Avenue was shot three times early Saturday by a man who fired a gun from the street.

The resident told police she and her grandchildren were sleeping when they heard a bang outside the home just before 1 a.m. Police received multiple reports of the shooting, with the gunman reportedly seen running down Poplar Avenue in the direction of Murtland Avenue.

Police said three bullets went through a bedroom window. Two of the bullets hit the ceiling, and the third went into a wall.

Three .40-caliber shell casings were found on Shannon. Police said it appears the shots were fired about 20 feet from the house.

The resident’s eldest grandson returned home while police were still on the scene. The 23-year-old told police he did not know who would shoot at the house.

Police checked a surveillance camera on a nearby house. The camera recorded some of the shooting, but police were not able to get a good look at the gunman.

Anyone with information is asked to call city police at 724-223-4226.
