A Donora woman was arrested Wednesday on a warrant charging her with homicide by motor vehicle and other offenses in connection with a fatal crash last December in Carroll Township.

District Judge Traci L. McDonald arraigned the suspect, Veronica Rodriguez, shortly after 11 p.m. on charges that also include driving under the influence of alcohol and a controlled substance and involuntary manslaughter, court record show.

Rodriguez was placed in Washington County jail on $25,000 bond, charged in the death of Laura L. Erickson, 55, of Monongahela.

Carroll Township police said a car driven by Rodriguez, 58, was traveling on Route 837 north when it crossed the center line and collided head-on with another operated by Erickson about 1:25 a.m. Dec. 16.

A coroner’s report said Erickson died of blunt-force trauma before her car became engulfed in flames.

Rodriguez is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing at 10 a.m. July 18 before District Judge Mark Wilson.
