Road workers assess the pooling water from a main break Friday during the installation of guardrails.

WAYNESBURG – A water main break just outside the borough limits Friday morning caused a dip in water pressure for area residents and flooding in nearby basements.

PennLive Service workers were installing new guardrails on Route 218 in Franklin Township just south of Walt’s Auto Clinic.

A PennLive worker on scene said the water line was not marked, and it produced a tall column of water when workers hit it around 11 a.m. By noon, the huge gush of water had subsided, leaving a muddy mess and backed-up traffic.

Southwestern Pennsylvania Water Authority workers were on scene. Waynesburg-Franklin Township Fire Department was called to pump out water from nearby basements.
