CANTON

Two arrested: Wesley Allen Shumaker, 45, of 23 Miller Road Extension, Canton, and Hope Renee Shumaker, 38, of 1032 S. Hewitt Ave., Canton, were arrested Sunday by state police on charges of simple assault and harassment after they allegedly assaulted each other during a confrontation the previous day at the Miller Road home. Both were arraigned before District Judge Joshua Kanalis. Hope Shumaker was released from Washington County jail after posting $5,000 bond. He was released from jail after posting $1,500 bond.

MONESSEN

Man arraigned: Tyler Arnett Elkins, 26, of 210 Shawnee Ave., Monessen, is charged by city police with theft and illegally possessing two Suboxone strips. Police accuse him of stealing $9 from a tip jar in a Subway on Eastgate Avenue about 8:20 a.m. July 10, court records show. He is free on $5,000 unsecured bond set last week.

NORTH BELLE VERNON

Man jailed: Teemon Dale Vernet, 33, of 427 Jones St., North Belle Vernon, is charged by borough police with robbery, simple assault, theft, resisting arrest and harassment, court records show. Police accuse Vernet of pushing Kathy Jo Collinet into a chair on her porch and stealing $20 from her about 5:10 p.m. Saturday in the 300 block of Ella Street. Vernet is in Westmoreland County jail on $50,000 bond set by District Judge Chris Flanigan.

NORTH STRABANE

Theft arrest: Elias Melad Khoury, 35, who told North Strabane police he is homeless, was arrested Sunday morning on charges of theft and an ordinance violation after several incidents. He reportedly was begging for money from patrons of Planet Fitness, Wildflower Drive, as well as going through lockers in the locker room. He then went to Frankie I’s, 1180 Mapleview Drive, and asked for free food on the buffet. After being told no, he helped himself to the food. Khoury was arraigned before District Judge Joshua Kanalis, who denied bond because Khoury has no address.

Driver faces charges: Ronald S. McNavish, 47, of 250 Willow Lake Court, Canonsburg, faces a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol after a two-vehicle crash Sunday night at South Central Avenue and Route 519. North Strabane police said McNavish failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with a vehicle driven by Frank Cacciotti, 30, of 68 Primrose Road, McDonald. Witnesses told police his vehicle had been swerving before it failed to stop. McNavish was taken to Canonsburg Hospital, where blood was drawn.

Drug possession at park: Marti Dean Brown, 29, of 41 Shannon Ave., Washington, was charged Monday by North Strabane police with possession of marijuana and paraphernalia. Police were called Saturday to the township park on Route 519 after visitors complained about the strong odor of marijuana near a pavilion and toddler playground. They found Brown with the suspected drug. The charges will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge Jay Weller.

ROSTRAVER

Lewdness charge: Jon William Moreland, 48, of 1099 E. National Pike, South Strabane Township, is charged by Rostraver police with open lewdness and possession of a small amount of marijuana after a police officer allegedly noticed him urinating outside of an Exxon, 900 Rostraver Road, about 5:40 p.m. July 7, court records show. Senior District Judge Herbert G. Mitchell Jr issued the charges Thursday in a summons.

Man charged: Michael Guty, 46, of 17 Truman Road, Fallowfield Township, is charged by township police with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, court records show. He is accused of taking a vehicle belonging to Marissa Carrell without her permission about 9:40 p.m. July 4 at a business on Finley Road. District Judge Charles Christner issued the charge Friday in a summons.

WASHINGTON

Two injured: Coltyn Spencer, 21, of 54 Ankrom Road, Washington, and John Youk, 69, of 35 Independence Road, Avella, were injured when their vehicles collided just after 2 p.m. Sunday on Jefferson Avenue near West Wheeling Street. Washington police said Spencer’s northbound car may have had a mechanical problem and crossed into the oncoming lane, hitting Youk’s pickup truck. Spencer was taken to Washington Hospital. Youk was taken to UPMC-Presbyterian hospital in Pittsburgh.

Vehicle in creek: Kyle E. Young, 31, of Ellwood City, faces a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol after he failed to negotiate a right turn at West Beau and Washington streets early Saturday. He drove through Hidden Treasures property, coming to rest in Catfish Creek. He told police after they helped him up the bank his name was George Costanza. He was taken to Washington Hospital for treatment and to have blood drawn. Police said he fled from the hospital and was last seen running in the direction of the nursing school. Police searched the area, but could not locate him.

Medication stolen: Philip Stahlman, of 418 E. Maiden St., told Washington police Monday his medication was stolen from a grocery bag in his apartment.

Phone stolen: Derrick Jones of Washington told Washington police Sunday his iPhone was stolen from his former residence on West Walnut Street.

Money stolen: Suzanne Ladd, 154 N. College St., told Washington police Saturday $45 was stolen from her wallet that was in her apartment.

Bicycle damaged: David Spiro, 226 S. College St., told Washington police Saturday the gear shift on his bicycle was damaged while parked in a common area at the apartment complex where he resides.

Compressor stolen: Matthew Sheets of Washington told Washington police Saturday a compressor was stolen from a house he is renovating at 1160 Bruce St.

Medication stolen: Bernard Howard, of 618 Beech St., told Washington police Friday several bottles of prescription medication were stolen from his home Wednesday.
