Truck jackknifes across interstate: A tractor-trailer blocked traffic in the southbound lanes of Interstate 79 near the Mt. Morris exit Sunday afternoon. Lyn N. Shlosky, 65, of Carmichaels, was stopped in traffic due to a construction zone at 2:39 p.m. Mohammad A. Haq, 57, of Oshawa, Ontario, Canada, was traveling too fast and jackknifed while attempting to avoid hitting Shlosky, although the trailer struck the back of the vehicle, police said. Haq also hit a light pole and road sign before coming to a rest across the southbound lanes. He was not injured. Shlosky also was not injured, but her passenger, Peter Shlosky, 64, of Carmichaels, was taken to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va., with a minor injury. Haq was cited for not driving at a safe speed.
Retail theft: Joshua Lee Bowser, 28, of 141 Hillman St., Monongahela Township, was charged with felony retail theft and driving on a suspended license after Greene Regional police said he took a soda from a store at the Truck Stop convenience store at 106 Gas Company Road in Perry Township without paying for it shortly after noon Monday. Bowser was charged with a felony count because of two other incidents of retail theft, police said.
Retail theft charges: Jason Allen McCormick, 33, of Morgantown, W.Va., was charged with two counts each of felony retail theft and a misdemeanor theft by unlawful taking after Greene Regional police said he took several items from the Truck Stop convenience store at 106 Gas Company Road in Perry Township without paying for them July 9 and 16. McCormick was charged with the felony counts due to prior incidents of retail theft, police said.
