Two people died Sunday when the motorcycle they were riding crashed into a car in Morgan Township, state police said.

Police said James Michael Hopkins, 49, and his passenger, Deysha L. Hopkins, 40, both of Waynesburg, were pronounced dead at the scene after the 5:55 p.m. crash on Route 188 near Beagle Club Road.

The motorcycle was traveling west on Route 188 when it crossed the centerline while going around a right-hand turn and crashed into an eastbound car driven by Chester Alan Bednar, 58, of California, police said.

It was not known if Bednar was injured and investigators did not indicate whether the victims were wearing helmets.

Jefferson volunteer firefighters and EMS Southwest medics assisted state police at the scene.
