Hanover police filed charges against a Venango County woman who allegedly spat water at, kicked and bit officers who detained her on suspicion she’d been driving drunk at KeyBank Pavilion.

Rebecca A. Babis, 32, of Cranberry Township, was charged Monday with driving under the influence, careless driving, aggravated assault, harassment and disorderly conduct. The charges were filed by summons in District Judge Gary Havelka’s office.

The charges stem from events July 25, when members of KeyBank Pavilion’s security staff saw a car – whose driver was later identified as Babis – hit orange-and-white traffic barrels on Starlake Lane before coming to a stop in the parking lot about 9 p.m.

Babis allegedly admitted to being intoxicated before police arrived. An officer wrote in court papers he smelled alcohol on Babis, and her eyes were glassy, bloodshot and watering.

Police took her to the Smith Township police station, where she refused a breath or blood test.

At one point at the station, she allegedly spat water onto an officer and allegedly kicked him.

Police transported her back to amphitheater grounds, from which Fort Cherry Ambulance staff were to transfer her to the hospital because of her behavior and alleged intoxication.

She allegedly kicked one of the police officers who were putting her onto an ambulance stretcher and bit another, and “made multiple attempts to hit other officers.”

Both officers refused medical treatment. Babis was taken to St. Clair Hospital in Mt. Lebanon.
