Back by popular demand is the Fabulous Hubcaps band from Baltimore that features six men and one woman. The group puts on quite a show, with costume changes and musical styles that impersonate classic rockers from Tina Turner and Connie Francis to Elvis, Little Richard, Elton John, Willie Nelson and Frank Sinatra.
The band has been getting together since 1974 and have traveled from county fairs and national conferences to the White House in a 1957 Ford Sky Liner, bringing oldies to life for their fans. In 2015, the Hubcaps were named Vocal Group of the Year by Maryland Entertainment Hall of Fame.
All concerts are free, but cash donations are appreciated, along with old glasses, which can be dropped off at the concerts. Lions members will be serving old fashioned hot dogs, hamburgers, chips and drinks, along with T-shirts and raffle baskets to help pay for the series. For the last two years, Greene County Tourism Promotion has given the club $5,000 grants to help keep the concerts coming.
“Our major mission is helping the blind and visually impaired, but we want to help the community and music is something everyone can enjoy,” Lions Club member Deshirl Yesenosky said. “Bring your lawn chair and family and have fun.”
This year’s eight-week concert series kicks off Monday night with the Hubcaps at Waynesburg Central High School Auditorium from 6:30 to 9 p.m. All other weekly performances will be Tuesdays from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Lions Club Park on Oak View Drive near the aquatic park.
