Local resources available for suicide prevention

With the recent high-profile suicides of Kate Spade and Anthony Bourdain, we would like to inform area residents of suicide prevention resources available in Washington and Greene counties.
Southwestern Pennsylvania Human Services offers a crisis hotline in Washington County that is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The services include crisis counseling, consultation and referrals for residents who exhibit emotional distress. The number is 1-877-225-3567.
Greene County Mental Health Services also offers a 24-hour call line at 1-800-417-9460. Both counties offer walk-in services and 24-hour mobile crisis outreach.
Residents of both counties can also call 911 and a dispatcher can link the person directly with a mental health crisis worker.
National prevention hotlines are also available. The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline can be reached at 1-800-273-TALK (8255) and the National Hopeline Network is available at 1-800-SUICIDE (1-800-784-2433).
Also, the National Alliance on Mental Illness of Washington County meets once a month at Courthouse Square, 100 W. Beau St., Washington. The meetings are held at 6:30 p.m. on the fourth Thursday of the month from January through October and the third Thursday of the month in November and December.
