A brief police chase in Washington early Wednesday ended in a three-vehicle crash that injured three teenagers.

Two 17-year-old boys and Samuel Harriot, 18, were in a borrowed vehicle traveling the wrong way on Allison Avenue shortly after 1:30 a.m., when city police started following them. Police activated their lights on Tyler Avenue, but the car sped up. At the bend in the 200 block of Humbert Lane, the 17-year-old driver failed to make the turn and the vehicle traveled through two yards and crashed into a parked pickup truck, which then struck another vehicle, according to police.

Harriot and a juvenile passenger got out of the vehicle and got on the ground as instructed by an officer, but the driver allegedly ran between two houses, police said. State police later found him crossing Interstate 70 on foot.

All three teens were taken to Washington Hospital for treatment. Police said the driver became aggressive and had to be restrained at the hospital.

Police said all three smelled of alcohol, and alcoholic beverages were found in the vehicle. The parents of the juveniles were notified, and police said driving under the influence charges will be filed against the driver.
