East Bethlehem Township home destroyed by fire
No one was hurt in a fire that destroyed an East Bethlehem Township house Wednesday afternoon.
According to East Bethlehem Assistant Fire Chief Nick Babko, one woman was inside the home at 24 Hawkins St. about 1:30 p.m., when the fire started.
“She got out right away,” Babko said.
A next-door neighbor, Don Bane, said he was driving his tractor when he noticed flames at the house.
“I went to see where she was,” he said about the resident who lived there. “I forgot to raise the blade and cut all the way across the lawn. She had come out into the yard, but it was blazing.”
Babko said no one was hurt in the fire and no pets were inside. He said the state fire marshal will investigate.
Mariana, Richeyville, Fredericktown, Denbo-Vesta Six, Bentleyville and Rices Landing fire departments responded to the scene along with Brownsville EMS. A cooling station with fans, chairs and water bottles was set up for the firefighters.
