Running a business is the pits for Stephen and Jessica Rose. In a good way.

Theirs is a fruitful endeavor.

The Nashville couple own The Peach Truck, a company that delivers peaches grown on a farm in Georgia, which is widely recognized as the Peach State. They sell their signature product in bulk, in 25-pound boxes, on street corners or by delivery in their hometown from a 1964 Jeep truck. But The Peach Truck’s reach goes well beyond Tennessee.

Each summer, the Roses take their juicy wares on the road for a multi-state tour. With Michigan now in the mix, the 2018 extended excursion will hit 132 towns in six states over seven weeks, a journey that began Friday and will conclude in early August.

Western Pennsylvania is on the itinerary – and so is Washington County. The Peach Truck will make two mini-tours through this region, on July 1 and 22, stopping both days at the same six locations. It will be at Bedner’s Farm and Greenhouse in Cecil Township from noon to 2 p.m., and Rural King in Washington Crown Center, North Franklin Township, from 3 to 5 p.m. on those Sundays.

The Peach Truck also will parked at Rollier in Mt. Lebanon from 8 to 10 a.m. on those days, with stops also planned in Hampton, Natrona Heights and Ambridge.

Raising peaches may be a growth industry in a natural sense – they sprout from trees – but Stephen Rose began to pursue financial growth as well after he purchased that ’64 vehicle in 2012. His initial motivation, however, was to bring a better-quality peach to Nashville. He was underwhelmed by what was being peddled there, and he is an expert.

Rose grew up in Fort Valley, Ga., next to a fifth-generation peach farm run by a family that was friendly with the Rose clan. He had loved the fruit there, but peaches sold in Music City hit a sour note with him. Rose said they weren’t from Georgia. So six years ago, he and Jessica forged a partnership with the farm in his old hometown and began to transport the produce to where they lived now. They sold peaches from the cab of their truck and, apparently did well.

They began to tour that year, and are now supplying Freestone peaches in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana in addition to Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Michigan.

Five-star rating

Rolling Meadows Nursing and Rehabilitation, in Waynesburg, has been designated a five-star-quality senior living facility by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. It is the only five-star facility of this type in Greene County.

CMS evaluates senior living and care providers on staffing levels, quality measures and health inspection, and Rolling Meadows last September improved in all categories.
