Sheriff’s deputy: Don’t waste your time calling 724-819-2024

Someone who calls 724-819-2024 is placed on hold and hears the musical selection “Take Five,” by Dave Brubeck.
The Washington County sheriff’s office is worried the caller could be taken for a lot more.
James D’Alessandro, Washington County chief deputy sheriff, said, for the second time this year, his office has been targeted by perpetrators of a scam.
The number has no connection with the Washington County sheriff’s office, but when it is called, a recording of a woman’s voice says the caller has reached the “warrant and processing services division of the Washington County sheriff’s office, 100 West Beau St.” and mentions a payment kiosk within the department.
“This number has nothing to do with the Washington County sheriff’s office,” D’Alessandro said Monday after being alerted to the phony phone number.
A reverse lookup through the Intelius.com website indicates the phone number is a landline in Washington, Pa.
In March, a phone call that allegedly originated in Beaver County tried to arrange a meeting at the Courthouse Square Office Building, 100 W. Beau St., with a “Sheriff’s Deputy Walker,” who supposedly was going to collect a fine from a person based on a made-up story that the intended victim had skipped jury duty.
There is no deputy by the name of Walker, and the meeting did not take place, but the sheriff’s office issued a warning of a potential scam.
