A Washington man told city police early Thursday he was punched in the head when he refused to pay another man a fee to allow him to stand in an alley.

Thirty-four-year-old Tyler Ankrom told police he was standing on Oak Alley about 1:45 a.m., waiting for a ride, when another man he knows only as Marty pulled up. A passenger got out of the vehicle.

That passenger reportedly told Ankrom he owns the alley and Ankrom had to pay him $10 for being in it. The man demanded the money from Ankrom several times. After Ankrom continued to refuse, the other man reportedly punched him in the head, knocking him to the ground.

Ankrom said his attacker got back in the vehicle, which left the area.
