A Washington man was arrested Saturday afternoon after he allegedly assaulted his girlfriend at a West Hallam Avenue apartment and then rammed her vehicle with his vehicle.

Leonardo Robert Porter, 23, of 235 S. College St., was charged with two counts of aggravated assault and one count each of recklessly endangering another person and accidents involving damage to an attended vehicle.

Police were called about 1:20 p.m. to 425 W. Hallam for a report of a domestic. When police arrived, they said they found blood leading from the foyer to the apartment. There also was blood in the apartment leading to a bedroom and blood on the bed. Police said there also were two large holes in one of the bedroom walls. No one was in the apartment.

Police were contacted by personnel at Washington Hospital about an assault victim who came to the emergency room. The 24-year-old woman told police she was in bed when Porter came home intoxicated. He then reportedly started punching her in the head until she lost consciousness.

When she came to, Porter allegedly was still hitting her. She was able to get off the bed, but fell into a dresser. Porter reportedly pinned her against a wall and broke her cellphone against the wall. He then kicked and punched the wall, police said.

The 24-year-old woman said she started screaming for help. She was able to get out of the bedroom and grab keys to her vehicle. She told police she fell down the stairs as she was leaving the apartment.

As she drove to the hospital, police said she saw Porter driving after her in a silver vehicle. When she turned on to Locust Avenue, he reportedly intentionally rammed the rear of her vehicle. When she got to the hospital, she did not get out of her vehicle because Porter was across the street, screaming at her. When Porter left the area, police said she got out of her vehicle and entered the hospital.

Police said the alleged victim had lacerations, heavy bruising and swelling on her face and head.

Porter was arraigned before District Judge Jesse Pettit and placed in Washington County jail on $250,000 bond. He faces a March 14 preliminary hearing before District Judge Robert Redlinger.
