Gasoline still a good deal in Washington
Western Pennsylvania gasoline prices dropped 2.4 cents per gallon over the past week, AAA East Central reported Monday. The average price of self-service unleaded was $2.82.6 per gallon.
That is 30.1 cents higher than it was a year ago ($2.52.5). The regional figure also is 3.6 cents higher than the current statewide average of $2.79, and well above the figure for most states.
Prices nationwide went up 1 cent to $2.53 per gallon, according to AAA, which said 25 states experienced increases over the week. The new national average is 8 cents lower than it was a month ago, but 22 cents above what it was at this time in 2017.
At $2.76.5 a gallon, Washington had the third-lowest price among 22 Western Pennsylvania cities and towns listed by AAA this week.
That figure, however, was a mere 0.8 cents below its $2.77.3 price last week. Sharon ($2.75.2) and Uniontown ($2.75.3) had the cheapest petrol on average.
Jeannette’s figure dropped 4.1 cents from last week to $2.87.7, but that Westmoreland County city still had the the highest average on the local list.
