After more than a year of negotiations, McGuffey School District reached a contract agreement with its teachers union.

The five-year contract, which runs retroactively from July 2017 through June 2022, includes a 3 percent salary increase each year.

McGuffey School Board approved the contract 7-0 at its regular meeting Thursday. Directors Scott Finch and Scott Harden were absent.

The 137 members of the McGuffey Education Association, who had been working without a contract since it expired June 30, 2017, voted overwhelmingly last week to approve the contract.

Said school board President Carl Group, “I’d like to thank all the members of the board, the administration and the union for the hard work in getting this accomplished. It’s a fair contract both ways and for the taxpayers.”

MEA President Andrew MacBeth thanked the board and administrators for working over the last several months to reach a new contract. MacBeth described negotiations as smooth and amicable.
