A Jefferson Township man was placed in Washington County jail after he allegedly assaulted his 48-year-old girlfriend, leaving her with broken bones in her face, during a confrontation earlier this month at a motel on Steubenville Pike in Robinson Township.

Daniel F. Morgan, 45, of 1148 Eldersville Road, Burgettstown, was arraigned Tuesday before District Judge David Mark on charges of aggravated assault, unlawful restraint, simple assault, criminal mischief and harassment filed by state police.

A trooper was initially dispatched to Morgan’s home March 8 to assist ambulance personnel but was redirected to UPMC-Presbyterian hospital in Pittsburgh, where the alleged victim was taken because of the extent of her injuries.

She reportedly told the trooper the two were staying in a room at the motel in Robinson when Morgan, whom she identified as her boyfriend, slammed her against a wall in the early morning hours of March 4. The woman said she lost consciousness and Morgan drove her back home later that day.

The woman told the trooper because of her injuries, she stayed in bed, and was not allowed to contact anyone. The day after the alleged assault, she reportedly asked Morgan if she could get medical treatment. Morgan allegedly refused to get her medical help and broke her cellphone so she could not call for assistance.

The woman said she was able to call for help March 6 after Morgan left the home. She told the trooper she found a phone and called 911. She was not able to tell the trooper how many times she had been hit, police said.

Morgan was placed in jail on $100,000 bond. Mark also ordered him to have no contact with the alleged victim. He is scheduled for an April 26 preliminary hearing before District Judge Gary Havelka.
