A 27-year-old man was robbed at gunpoint in Morgan Township Thursday night when he stopped his car to try to help a man on the side of the road who he thought was in distress, state police said.

Police said the William Hyatt was traveling on Chartiers Road near Center School Road about 8 p.m. when he saw a person lying on the side of the road.

When he got out of his car, the man on the road stood up and another person came out of the woods and pointed a gun at the Hyatt. The two men then demanded cash and valuables, before leaving, police said. They were wearing dark-colored hooded sweatshirts and dark pants, along with ski masks and gloves.

State police said anyone who comes along a similar situation with a person lying on the roadside, especially near a heavily wooded area, should immediately call 911.
