Brownsville man accused of assaulting pregnant woman
A Brownsville man was charged Tuesday by California police for allegedly assaulting a pregnant 26-year-old woman earlier this month.
Michael L. Zellie, 34, of 515 Green St., is charged with aggravated assault of an unborn child and two counts each of aggravated assault, simple assault and harassment.
Police were called March 14 to a home on Ventura Street in Coal Center for a report of a man kicking a pregnant woman in the stomach and possibly stabbing himself before running into a wooded area.
The woman said she and Zellie got into an argument over the use of her cellphone. He then allegedly kicked her in the stomach before running off. She then told police there was no knife involved.
The woman told the officer she was pregnant and Zellie knew she was pregnant. She said Zellie was just a friend and they were not romantically involved.
Police said the woman received medical attention and the baby appeared to be fine. Zellie will be scheduled for a preliminary hearing before District Judge Joshua Kanalis.
