Runaway Virginia girl found at Washington home
A 14-year-old girl who ran away from her home in Virginia Beach, Va., Saturday after stealing her mother’s vehicle was found at a Washington home Monday night.
State police said they got a call about 8 p.m. Sunday from the girl’s mother, who said the girl had stolen the dark gray Ford Escape and fled with an 18-year-old man who also was from Virginia Beach.
The mother told police she was able to look at a Snapchat photograph that might have been taken while the 14-year-old was at a home in the 700 block of Fayette Street in Washington.
State police went to the residence and learned the girl might be staying at a home in the 300 block of North Franklin Street. Troopers went to that home about 10:30 p.m. Monday and were given permission to search the house. They found the girl in an upstairs bedroom.
Arrangements were made with her parents to pick her up. Police said the vehicle is still missing, and it is not clear whether the girl and an 18-year-old man took a ride service to Washington. It also was not known how the mother was able to determine her daughter was in Washington.
Police ask anyone who spots the missing vehicle, which has Virginia license plate VKP-9341, to call 911.
The 18-year-old man has not been charged by state police.
