A Washington man delivering pizza early Thursday was robbed at gunpoint of cash, his car keys and cellphone as he tried to deliver in the city’s West End.

The 39-year-old driver told Washington police he was working for Vocelli Pizza, 192 S. Main St., and attempting to deliver a pizza and two-liter bottle of a soft drink to a house in the 800 block of Addison Street about 12:10 a.m.

As the driver pulled onto the street near the home where the pizza was to be delivered, he saw a light-skinned black man wearing red sweatpants and a black hooded shirt approach with three other men. All appeared to be in their late teens.

When the driver asked the first man if he ordered the pizza, he said yes and pointed to the house. The driver said he got out of his car to give the man the order when the man brandished a revolver with a brown grip and pointed it in his face.

The robber demanded the driver hand over his money or he would “put a bullet” in him. The driver handed over more than $100. The robber then demanded the driver give him his wallet. The driver asked the robber to take just the cash, but not the wallet. The robber reportedly said, “Yeah, that’s just not right,” as he removed the money and handed the wallet back to the driver.

One of the other men in the group told the robber to take the keys and cellphone. An accomplice got into the car and removed those items.

The four then ran north in the direction of Broad Street. The driver went to a home in the area and asked the residents to call 911.

Police said there appeared to be no one home at the residence where the pizza was to be delivered. Officers canvassed the area on foot and in their cruisers but were unable to locate the suspects.
