A misty fog did little to scare away those seeking a new way to hunt Easter eggs Wednesday. Three families of four each participated in an Easter egg geocaching program at Mingo Creek County Park, where they used a handheld GPS device to search for candy-filled Easter eggs hidden in the park near the office and Ebenezer Bridge.

Led by Sarah Sandin, a recreation program coordinator at the parks department, participants were taught the basics of geocaching before being sent out in small groups on their own to hunt for eggs. Geocaching uses a GPS to locate items, called caches, hidden in various locations around the world. The caches are marked with longitude and latitude coordinates, and those coordinates are then used to find the hidden object.

While the coordinates for the eggs were private for the program, those looking to try geocaching can find information on caches at www.geocaching.com. Three more geocaching programs are scheduled in Mingo park. Check www.co.washington.pa.us for more information.
