WAYNESBURG – Greene County apparently likes its MTOs.

Sheetz Inc., which uses MTO, or made to order, in its advertising, has begun excavation work for a new store on Route 21 at Murtha Drive in Franklin Township, about two miles east of the store it recently rebuilt and expanded on Route 21 at Jefferson Road.

The new store, across Route 21 from Greene County Airport, will be 6,050 square feet and offer inside and outside dining, a full menu and a drive-through window, said Nick Ruffner, Sheetz’s public relations manager. It also will sell beer.

The store will have 12 fuel pumps and entrances on Route 21 and Murtha Drive, he said.

Work on the project began about two weeks ago. The store is expected to open in early September, Ruffner said.

The new store at Murtha Drive will be closer to Interstate 79 and is expected to draw business from I-79 traffic.

“We are looking forward to the opening of our second location in Waynesburg, especially since the Murtha Drive store will be conveniently located adjacent to Interstate 79,” Ruffner said.

The company completed the rebuilding and expansion of its Route 21 and Jefferson Road store in December.

The company has had a store at Jefferson Road since about 1999. Last year, it expanded the operations onto property west of the original store, at what had been the Central Plaza. That store is 5,950 square feet and also includes a car wash.

In addition to the two Franklin Township stores, the company has a store in Cumberland Township. That store on Route 21 at the Paisley Intersection also was rebuilt and expanded last year.
