On a day Community Bank closed on a combination merger, its chief executive officer announced he would be leaving.

Barron “Pat” McCune said Monday he will retire June 20. Word came out at about the time CB Financial Services, the holding company for Community Bank, finalized a merger with Wheeling-based First West Virginia Bancorp Inc., the holding company for Progressive Bank N.A.

“There have been a lot of emotions every which way,” said McCune, who will relinquish CEO duties to Pat O’Brien, the current president. McCune, however, will remain with the Carmichaels-based bank as a director and ambassador “for a short duration.” He did not specify how long that may be.

McCune said he told the CB board about his intentions a year ago, while recommending O’Brien to be his successor. The board agreed and worked with O’Brien and McCune on a succession plan.

McCune lives on a farm in Scenery Hill with his wife, Ann, a Peters Township dermatologist. They have two adult sons.
