The state police fire marshal is investigating the cause of a fire that destroyed a home in Hanover Township Wednesday morning.

Jim Freeland, second assistant chief of the Hanover Volunteer Fire Department, said the house at 28 Windy Hill Lane (Steubenville Pike) was already engulfed when firefighters arrived after getting the call at 4:50 a.m.

Freeland said no one was home at the time. A woman had just moved into the house, which was a rental property. The fire also melted the siding of a neighboring residence. Freeland believes the fire was called in by a neighbor.

No injuries were reported. Information on the property owner and resident was not immediately available.

Assisting at the scene were firefighters from Burgettstown, Jefferson Township (Eldersville) and Slovan.

Fire Chief Mike Morra said it has been a busy few days for the department. They were called to assist firefighters in Weirton, W.Va., who had several structure fires Tuesday.
