A fire destroyed a cinder block garage at a Hopewell Township residence Wednesday evening.

West Middletown fire Chief Ken McDougan said the homeowner, Pete Dellapina of 86 Ridge Road, was working in his yard behind his house just before 7 p.m. When Dellapina went to the garage to get a chain saw, he saw smoke coming from under the roof.

McDougan said Dellapina kept tools in the garage along with two vehicles he was restoring.

The cause of the fire is undetermined and the state police fire marshal responded to the scene. No injuries were reported.

Firefighters were at the scene for about two hours.

Assisting West Middletown were firefighters from Avella and Canton Township. Tanker trucks from Claysville, Taylorstown and Mt. Pleasant and North Franklin townships also responded to the scene.
