Carole DeAngelo, marketing director of Observer Publishing Co., is the 16th annual recipient of the Washington County ATHENA Leadership Award.

The Washington County Chamber of Commerce made the announcement Friday during a luncheon at the Hilton Garden Inn, Pittsburgh/Southpointe. The event, according to the chamber – the event host – was attended by more than 330 business and community leaders.

The award recognizes women for their leadership in the business and civic community. A panel of businesswomen from the county selects the finalists. The other four were: Carol J. Jones, quality assurance, Transitional Paths to Independent Living; M. Elizabeth Pepper, M.D., Pepper Family Medicine; Kristen Shaw, teacher/English Department chair, Trinity Area School District; and Rose Tennent, political analyst and media personality, Rose Unplugged.

The chamber and POWER of Southpointe announced Victoria Hassett was presented with the Young Professional Leadership Award, which goes to emerging leaders. She is a management consultant for the University of Pittsburgh Small Business Development Center, and daughter of county Commissioner Diana Irey Vaughan.
