In an effort to enhance service reliability, West Penn Power is trimming trees in its 24-county service area of Pennsylvania – including Washington and Greene.

The utility, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp., is working to maintain proper clearances near electrical equipment, which can reduce the frequency and duration of power outages.

Trimming will occur in the Washington County communities of Bentleyville, Burgettstown, California, Charleroi, Craven, Donora, Fredericktown, Marianna, McDonald, Midway and Vanceville.

Trimming in Greene will take place in Bobtown, Bristoria, Crucible, Greensboro, Mather, Mount Morris, Rogersville, Waynesburg and Wind Ridge.

Since the beginning of the year, more than 1,200 circuit miles of electric lines have been trimmed in West Penn’s service area as part of the $48.6 million vegetation management program. Another 3,900 miles may be completed this year.
