Car flips on I-79 near Canonsburg exit

A woman refused medical treatment after passersby helped her out of a vehicle she’d been driving Tuesday morning when it flipped onto its roof beside Interstate 79 in North Strabane Township.
The single-vehicle accident occurred about 8:45 a.m. on I-79 south, about a mile before the Canonsburg exit. Capt. Tim Liedl of the township fire department said several people had stopped to help the driver.
“We got here as she was getting out of the vehicle,” he said.
The Ford sedan, which had an Ohio plate, was resting on its roof at a perpendicular angle to the highway. A tow truck removed it within about half an hour.
A passerby who didn’t want to give her name said she’d stopped and called 911. She stuck around to look after a dog that had been in the car.
Even though both lanes of the highway remained open, traffic was slowed for several miles – past the Southpointe exit in Cecil Township – even after the crash was cleared.
A state trooper declined to immediately provide the driver’s name and other information about the accident, saying it was still under investigation.
