A Fallowfield Township man is wanted by state police on charges including possessing weapons of mass destruction and having an illegal cache of guns as a convicted felon.

District Judge Larry Hopkins last week signed a warrant for the arrest of Justin David Key, 28, after police said a search of his residence produced five large and powerful fireworks known as M-80s and 15 guns, court records allege.

State police said they were called into the investigation by Charleroi Regional police about 1:20 a.m. May 8 to help serve a search warrant on Key’s residence at 209 Wilson Road as part of a drug case.

Key also was under investigation for violating his probation under the terms of a felony conviction for possessing dangerous drugs, police noted in the affidavit.

A second warrant was signed about 6 a.m. that day by District Judge Jay Weller to search Key’s residence after police said they noticed guns in his bedroom.

One of the guns troopers seized had been reported stolen in nearby Rostraver Township, the court record indicates. Police said they also found six rifle magazines, a large box of ammunition, five pistol magazines, a SKA standard stock system and tools for a Glock subcompact laser, the record shows.

Key has a 2015 felony conviction in Washington County for drug delivery. He also is on probation for an assault conviction from a case last year in Charleroi, online court records show, and has been declared a fugitive in a January assault case in Charleroi.

State police also charged him in the new weapons case with receiving stolen property, possessing explosive materials and causing or risking a catastrophe.
