Chartiers man accused of threatening township police officers waives hearing
A Chartiers Township man accused of threatening the township police chief and detective sergeant waived his case to court Wednesday.
David Curtis Steede, 59, of Ivy Court, had been scheduled for a preliminary hearing before District Judge Robert Redlinger.
Steede was taken into custody April 26 on two counts of terroristic threats filed against him by state police. Steede allegedly made the threats against Chief James Horvath and Detective Sgt. Steven Horvath during a session with his therapist at an office on West Chestnut Street in Washington.
Steede allegedly told his counselor if he did not find salvation, he was going to kill the officers. The counselor reportedly explained to Steede she had a duty to warn police, and the counselor notified the chief of the alleged threat that day. He contacted the district attorney’s office, and the case was referred to the state police.
Steede, who remains in Washington County jail on $100,000 bond, is scheduled for a fast-track hearing July 3.
