Qualifying organizations that provide food and shelter programs in Greene County can apply for a share of $22,861 in federal money.

Greene County has previously distributed emergency food and shelter funds to Catholic Charities, Corner Cupboard Food Bank and Salvation Army.

The money, from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, is distributed from appropriations by Congress to help areas across the country in need of food and shelter assistance. Qualifying organizations are encouraged to apply.

Locally, the funds will be awarded and distributed to Greene County emergency food and shelter programs run by local service organizations. Representatives from Greene County United Way, Catholic Charities, Blueprints, Corner Cupboard Food Bank, Greene County Human Services, Salvation Army and Waynesburg Ministerial Association will recommend agencies to receive these and any additional funds under this program.

Public or private voluntary organizations interested in applying should contact MaChal Forbes, executive director of Greene County United Way, by June 5 at 724-852-1009.
