Man accused of stealing $22K in tools, mowers from Sycamore property

A Jefferson Township man has been charged with burglary, theft, criminal trespass and receiving stolen property after investigators said he took $22,000 worth of power tools and equipment from a Sycamore property Friday.
Jacob Allen Fonner, 33, of 101 Sugar Camp Road, is accused of taking items from a Morris Township property at 152 Centennial Road after Greene County Regional police Chief Zachary Sams said officers responded to a burglary alarm at the house.
Bob Keller told police he had come to the property to cut grass and noticed a John Deere Gator was not in the garage. A trimmer, chainsaw, gas cans, battery charger, four toolboxes, helmets, a push mower and other assorted power tools, saws and drills were reported missing.
Neighbor James Fonner told police his son was staying with him at 312 Tollgate Run and did not come home the night before.
Sams noticed fresh tire tracks in the grass and a black cellphone with a broken screen nearby, according to the criminal complaint. Another neighbor said the phone belonged to Fonner. A search warrant later acquired to access the phone revealed that it was thought to be a device shared by Fonner and a woman.
Police later received an anonymous tip about a dirt bike used to commit the burglary, according to the court document. The owner of the motorcycle, Kelsy Kashycki, who also lives at 312 Tollgate Run Road, told police Tuesday Fonner and the woman approached her Thursday night, asking to borrow the motorcycle to go to a family member’s home.
The next morning, Kashycki said she noticed a John Deere Gator, equipment and various toolboxes and items in the woods behind the residence. She said the Gator was later sold for $2,000, according to court documents.
Fonner remains in Greene County jail on $35,000 cash bond. He is scheduled to appear before District Judge David Balint for a preliminary hearing 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. He faces one count each of burglary, criminal trespass and receiving stolen property and nine charges of theft.
No one else is currently facing charges in connection with the burglary.
