Inmate found dead at SCI-Greene
A 47-year-old inmate at SCI-Greene was found dead in his cell Wednesday.
Eric King, 47, of Pittsburgh was found hanging in his cell by employees serving lunch to his housing unit around 10:15 a.m., said Acting Superintendent Michael Zaken. Staff and medical personnel immediately responded to the scene, Zaken said, and King was pronounced dead by emergency personnel.
State police are investigating, and Zaken said the cause and manner of death will be determined by the Greene County coroner.
Prison officials said King was serving a two-to-four-year sentence on weapons charges out of Allegheny County.
He was committed to the state Department of Corrections on July 13 and had been at SCI-Greene since that time.
