Washington School Board voted Monday to appoint Louis Magnotta as principal of the district’s junior high school.

Magnotta will begin his new position when he leaves his current job or Dec. 3, whichever comes first. Magnotta is currently the assistant principal at McGuffey High School and, before that, taught seventh-grade social studies at Central Valley School District in Beaver County. He has degrees from Thiel College in Greenville and the University of Pittsburgh.

His salary will be $84,000 per year. Magnotta will be replacing Mary Grace Stutzman, who stepped down after a 21-year stint in the district to take a job with Ringgold School District.

At the special meeting Monday, the board also approved the appointment of Stephen Cherry to be a band director and instrumental music teacher. A Washington native, he currently works at High Point High School in Beltsville, Md. Cherry starts at a salary of $55,960.
