CHARLEROI – A Pittsburgh-area man who was cleared in a Mon Valley home invasion last year is now wanted in connection with a theft case in Charleroi.

District Judge Larry Hopkins last week signed a warrant for the arrest of Gerin Tayre Williamson, 20, of Verona, on charges he stole a gold and diamond chain from a borough woman Oct. 25, court records show.

Mya Fowler accused Williamson of showing up at her residence in the 1000 block of McKean Avenue a day earlier looking for his lost bag of marijuana, Charleroi Regional police stated in the affidavit.

Fowler said the man, whom she knew at the time as only G.G., returned the following day about 8 p.m. and accused her of stealing his marijuana. She said he demanded the return of the drug or money to cover his loss.

She denied his accusation, at which time he pulled a gold chain with a Jesus charm from her neck and also took her designer tennis shoes and backpack, court records allege.

Williams was arrested in August 2017 by Charleroi Regional police in connection with a home invasion in neighboring Speers. The victim in that case was threatened with firearms and left tied up on his lawn on Twilight Hollow Road with a scarf around his face. A jar of marijuana and other items were stolen from the residence.

A string of charges, including kidnapping, were withdrawn two months later against Williamson after the victim didn’t recognize him as the suspect, said Williamson’s attorney, Owen Matthew Seman.

“They had the wrong man,” Seman said.

Police said Williamson was identified as the suspect in the latest case using his Instagram account and the arrest file in the home invasion.

Williamson is wanted on charges of robbery, theft and receiving stolen property.
