A Fallowfield Township man was placed in Washington County jail for allegedly assaulting several police officers who were trying to take him into custody Tuesday morning after he reportedly choked and assaulted his girlfriend at his home.

Robert Samuel Lee Bailey, 34, of 899 Bentleyville Road, is charged by state police with five counts of aggravated assault, seven counts of harassment and one count each of strangulation, terroristic threats, simple assault, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and harassment.

Police were called to the residence about 11:15 a.m. for a reported of a domestic dispute. Bailey’s girlfriend told police he had been drinking for the past two days and was upset he could not receive his medical marijuana. The argument reportedly turned physical, and Bailey allegedly choked the woman and bit her arm. She told police he said he was going to get a gun and come back and shoot everybody.

When troopers encountered Bailey at the front door of his home, he was told several times to show his hands and comply with police orders. Troopers were able to place one of his hands in handcuffs, but Bailey allegedly failed to comply with orders and continued to resist.

Bailey allegedly kicked and spit at troopers as he was being taken into custody. Once he was placed in handcuffs, police said he continued to kick at troopers, who used pepper spray to bring him under control.

Police said during the incident, Trooper Randy Simko and Cpl. Marc Ziegler were spit on by Bailey. Sgt. John Thacik and Trooper Charles Hassenfeldt were kicked by Bailey, they said. Cpl. Matthew Alekson suffered a broken hand while taking Bailey into custody.

Bailey was arraigned before District Judge Jay Weller and jailed on $50,000 bond. He is scheduled for a Nov. 26 preliminary hearing before District Judge Larry Hopkins.
