School threat at Canon-McMillan High School; police investigation determines not credible
Canon-McMillan School District administration sent out an alert Monday afternoon that a note threatening a school shooting was discovered in a restroom at the high school.
According to the email sent to parents and guardians, North Strabane Township police investigated the matter and determined the threat was not credible.
Administrators were notified about the note at about 2:30 p.m. They immediately contacted the police department, which responded to the high school.
No other details about the note’s contents were provided.
In the email, sent shortly after 4 p.m., the school district thanked the person who alerted administrators for “seeing something and saying something,” and wrote, “Be reminded that we must all be vigilant in this regard.”
On Nov. 9, a Lawrence woman was arrested and charged with terroristic threats and aggravated assault for allegedly threatening to shoot a principal and a teacher, as well as others, at Hills-Hendersonville Elementary School.
The woman reportedly admitted making the threat, saying she told a therapist with Washington Behavioral Resources she was unhappy with the school and did not mean it.
Monday’s threat was the third incident the school district encountered this month.
In another incident, North Strabane Township police were called to the high school after two students reported another student walked by wearing a hooded shirt that covered his face and reportedly said, “I have a gun.”
No weapon was found in the school, and the student, whose identity was unknown by the classmates, was not found.
