Uniontown Country Club to re-open under new ownership
More than a month after it closed its doors, the Uniontown Country Club has been sold to a new owner.
On Monday, Bailey Lane LLC announced it has reached an agreement to sell the club to Phoenix LLC after extensive negotiations with several bidders.
Phoenix is the same group that owns and operates numerous businesses, including Duck Hollow Golf Club in Uniontown.
“We are looking forward to operating the UCC and wish to thank the Boyle family (who formerly owned the club) for their attention to the needs of the community and this opportunity,” said Phoenix spokeswoman Julia Gabriel. “They recognized the value of UCC to the community when they purchased it in 2010 and adhered to those commitments over the years.”
The country club has been around since 1908, and was previously owned by Brian Boyle, who bought it in 2010. But the club struggled and Boyle tried to sell it. He told members he would close the club in fall 2014 if he couldn’t find a buyer.
Partners Aaron Gizzi, David Sines and Brendon Burchiel, all of Morgantown, W.Va., took control of the club in March 2015, but announced in September the doors would close this Oct. 1.
“We are excited to carry on the tradition and bring Uniontown and the surrounding area a recreational facility to spend their personal and family time together,” Gabriel said, adding Phoenix plans to bring enhancements to the golf course as well as the banquet facilities. “Stay tuned for more as we plan for the future.”
“Our commitment eight years ago was simple: to fix the ailing club and ensure it continued operations,” Boyle stated. “We thank the community for the support and share in the disappointment of the club’s recent decline. It is now our hope that by selling this historic club and property to Phoenix LLC it will continue to grow and prosper for years to come.”
Other than golf, amenities the club offered included tennis, a swimming pool, a cigar lounge, a golf simulator, a banquet room, catering and their Hawaiian-themed restaurant, Tropics On The Links.
The official transition date for the UCC’s new management will be Nov. 30.
An official reopening date was not announced.
